Mary Bonnet Says ‘Selling Sunset’ Cost Her More Than Half a Million Dollars in Lost Commissions
"Selling Sunset" alum Mary Bonnet has claimed that starring in the Netflix series caused her to lose out on more than $500,000 in commissions—because her real estate clients didn't want to be sucked into the messy drama that was playing out on screen.
The 45-year-old reflected on the deals she lost thanks to her connection to the reality TV real estate series while speaking on Harry Jowsey's podcast, "Boyfriend Material."
She recalled one particularly painful occasion when she missed out on a $20 million listing because another agent compiled a video of her most controversial moments from the series—then sent it to the property's seller in a bid to edge her out of the deal.
"I've lost some big ones," she said when asked by Jowsey whether her role in the show had ever caused her to miss a deal. "I've lost a $20 million house. They were ready to go with me ... then [another] agent put a video together of all the bad behavior, basically, of the girls on the show.
"And he's like [to the client], 'This is who you want to represent you, really? This is what they do. They're doing drugs' ... And so I lost the f---ing deal."

Losing that deal, Bonnet added, caused her to miss out on a potential commission of $500,000, noting that she typically takes 2.5% of a property's final sale price.
And that was not the only deal that the reality star missed out on thanks to the show—with Bonnet explaining that multiple clients had asked her to "remove" herself from their real estate transactions in a bid to avoid being tied to the on-screen drama.
She took aim at the show's producers for "editing" the series in a way that amped up the scandal, making her role in certain scenarios that much more controversial and leading to her clients being harassed for working with her.
"Because of the editing, too, I had my clients be like, 'Listen, we love you, but we have to have you remove yourself from the past sale because we're getting harassed,' and stuff like that," she shared.
When Jowsey expressed his horror that Bonnet had lost out on $500,000 because of the show, she responded that the number was likely much higher, because this kind of issue had "happened multiple times."
She conceded that, while she did get paid for her role on the show—enabling her to continue making money—her Netflix salary didn't come close to the money that she lost from potential commissions.
Bonnet isn't doing too badly for herself, however, having previously revealed that she and her husband, Romain Bonnet, had actually updated their prenup to account for her additional earnings.
“Because our situation has changed quite a lot since the beginning of the show and when Romain and I got married, we have additional things to [our prenup],” Mary noted, adding that they amended their prenup to include their home.

She assured fans that their prenup is "very fair," even though she "put down the money" for the house—while hitting back at critics who have accused her husband of being a "gold digger."
“I make more money, and Romain is fine with that; he doesn’t care," she explained. "He contributes. People were saying he’s a gold digger. He contributes and always wants to. He’s a very stubborn man," adding that she doesn't believe he would "ever try and take my money.
“Basically it states that any money that I put into the house comes back to me first if we sell it. Then he gets an amount that we both decided was fair when we were in love and a good place."
Elsewhere in her sit-down with Jowsey, the real estate agent also spoke out against the changes made within the series, noting that the recent cast switchup left her feeling "sad" about its future.
It was reported earlier this year that Bonnet, Emma Hernan, Chelsea Lazkani, and Sofia Vergara's first cousin and adopted sister, Sandra Vergara, had all been cut from the show, while Chrishell Stause and Alanna Gold have also stated that they will not return to the cast lineup.
“It didn’t need to be like that where they had to switch things up and where ratings were dropping and all this chaos was going on and they felt the need to edit and stuff like that," Bonnet explained.
"It was like, it’s sad, but you know, maybe it’ll do great for them and they’re like, ‘Wow, this was like the best thing ever for this recasting and stuff.’ Who knows? But to me, it’s a little sad."
Although she insisted that she is not interested in returning to the drama and chaos of the series, Bonnet noted that when she discovered her former co-stars were filming for the new season, it did feel "weird" to not be involved.
“It’s weird,” she confessed, recalling a conversation with Jason Oppenheim. “I was like, ‘Hey, what are you doing tomorrow?’ He’s like, ‘Oh, we’re filming like this thing,’ and he’s like, ‘I feel so weird saying that without you,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah.'”

She added, “I mean, it does feel weird. I think now it’s been about a month or two or something, I think, maybe. I don’t know when they started filming, but I think the first couple of days it was like, it felt like I was in a different universe."
"I haven’t been anybody except on their show for like nine seasons. It’s like, what? Seven years, something like that, and I’m like, it just felt so bizarre. I’m like, ‘Who am I? What am I doing?'" she continued.
She even teased that she is still on the cast text chain.
The upcoming series will see several major players returning to the cast, including Christine Quinn and Heather Rae El Moussa, who have both confirmed that they are in the process of filming new episodes after yearslong episodes.
After months of rumors that the two women were set to make a comeback to the Oppenheim Group, both Quinn, 37, and El Moussa, 38, officially confirmed the news, while teasing viewers about their plans to stir things up, both in terms of California's luxury real estate market and for their co-stars.
Quinn announced the news of her return in an Instagram video, telling fans she's "back" before asking if they missed her.
El Moussa also revealed she was coming back to the series with a clip shared to social media. In the video, she picks up a phone call and addresses Jason, telling him: "Jason, it's time. I'm back."
The mother of one—who is married to fellow real estate pro and HGTV co-star Tarek El Moussa—is then seen strutting toward the agency's iconic Sunset Strip offices.
