Justin Baldoni and Wife Emily Break Silence on Blake Lively Scandal in Emotional Video—a Year After Quitting California for a ‘Fresh Start’

by Kelsi Karruli

Justin Baldoni and his wife, Emily, have spoken out for the first time after settling their legal battle with Blake Lively—months after ditching California for Tennessee.

Baldoni, 42, and his spouse took to Instagram to speak out about the "trauma" they suffered as a result of the lengthy legal tussle with Lively, which began in 2024 after she sued Baldoni over claims he sexually harassed her during the filming of "It Ends with Us."

The actor vehemently denied the allegations and filed a $400 million counter suit against the actress, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, her publicist Leslie Sloane, and Sloane’s PR firm, claiming defamation and breach of contract. That suit was later dismissed by a judge, however.

Lively's sexual harassment claims against Baldoni were also thrown out; however, she was allowed to pursue her allegations of retaliation against the actor, his production company, and his publicity team. Days before that case was due to go to trial in May 2026, Lively and Baldoni reached a private settlement.

However, the agreement did not end the dispute between the two after it was revealed that Lively was seeking $8 million in legal fees from Baldoni.

While that claim is still ongoing, the actor and his wife appear ready to address at least some of the fallout from the very lengthy legal feud, noting in their video that they have only remained silent throughout the proceedings because it never felt like the "right time" to speak up.

“We have not spoken publicly for the better part of the last two years, and it’s not because we haven’t had anything to say," they said at the beginning of the video, which appears to have been filmed at their Nashville home.

“Because lord knows we have, but it just felt like every time we went to make a video like this, we wanted to speak, something was telling us not to. It just didn’t feel like the right time, and we were talking about it and feeling into it and praying about it," Baldoni added.

Emily chimed in to assure fans that this felt like "the moment" to speak out, adding, "There's so much to say."

Baldoni, who didn't mention Lively's name during the video, noted that they had experienced a lot of "trauma," adding that they have "let the justice system run its course."

“We don’t even know if this is the right thing to say. We just know we need to share something," the "It Ends with Us" actor and director shared.

"What I will say is that there have been so many painful things that have been spoken into existence over the last couple of years. That created so much noise, and we didn’t want to add to the noise. So we just wanted to let the justice system run its course."

Emily added that the "truth and the facts have spoken for themselves," she then expressed her "immense gratitude for ... so many people and so many things that have happened to us.”

"Gratitude has saved us," Baldoni noted.

The actor further revealed that they are focusing on healing and moving forward, adding, "We are healing. If you’ve ever been through something traumatic, you know that healing isn’t linear. It looks different every day.

"We have had to rethink for ourselves what is real, and what matters. It’s this. It’s our family, it’s our friends, it’s our community, who have been there for us, it’s our faith.”

Although Emily revealed there is "more to say," she noted that they would be staying quiet on the details for now.

“There’s so much more to say. The time will come. But for now, we are going to focus on continuing the healing and hanging out with our kiddos and enjoying life," she said.

On May 4, both Baldoni's and Lively's lawyers revealed that they had reached a settlement, weeks before the case was set to go to trial on May 18.

“The end product, the movie 'It Ends With Us,' is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life. Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors, and all survivors, is a goal that we stand behind," the attorney's said in a joint statement.

The statement added, “We acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognize concerns raised by Ms. Lively deserved to be heard. We remain firmly committed to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.”

In a court filing submitted May 8, it was revealed that Lively agreed to drop her three remaining claims without Baldoni paying the $300 million in damages she sought.

“Let’s be clear, this is a win and total victory for the Wayfarer parties. The court had already dismissed 10 of Ms. Lively’s 13 claims, including every sexual harassment claim, every defamation claim, and all claims against the individual defendants. Ms. Lively voluntarily dismissed the rest," Bryan Freedman, who represented Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios, said.

Amid the legal drama, Baldoni and Emily moved to Nashville for a "fresh start."

A source close to the couple previously told People, "It's obviously been an incredibly difficult time for the whole family, but Nashville has given them a fresh start."

Baldoni and Emily relocated to Tennessee in December 2025, and according to the source, it has been "welcoming." They closed on a home in the city in August of that same year, paying over $3 million for their new abode.

Two months later, in February 2026, the couple quietly listed their home in Ojai, CA, for $8.88 million—days after a rental listing for the same property was taken down.

Located in the picturesque neighborhood of Santa Paula, the five-bedroom dwelling, which remains on the market, is described as being "more than a home," with the listing hailing it as a "rare retreat-style compound offering privacy, scale, and versatility."

Set on a sprawling 10 acres at the foothills of the Topa Topa Mountains, the compound is anchored by a spectacular Mediterranean-style primary residence that spans more than 5,200 square feet.

However, the property is also home to numerous other structures, including a tiny house, as well as a "yoga dome" and a "guest dome" that were "imported from Poland" in order to turn the estate into a true luxury retreat.

"Designed as both a luxury residence, and a retreat and event venue, the property delivers a lifestyle unlike anything else in the region," the listing continues.

Baldoni and his wife purchased the property in 2020 for $2.2 million—but have made numerous updates to the estate since then, spending two years carefully renovating the primary residence, while also adding the additional structures to the surrounding land.
