The Met Gala Costs $6 Million To Throw—Hosts Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s Homes Are Worth More Than 100 Times That Amount
The Met Gala is set to make a return to New York City on May 4, when some of the world's biggest celebrities will descend upon the storied steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, turning the historic gallery into a star-studded catwalk.
Among them will be this year's lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs, billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, who are joining an illustrious cast of 2026 Met Gala co-chairs: Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and former Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
The theme of this year's event, "Costume Art," which is coupled with a "Fashion Is Art" dress code, is expected to prompt an array of unique outfits and ensembles—with guests encouraged to "consider the many ways that designers use the body as their blank canvas," according to Vogue.
But while unique fashion has become a given at the event, questions have already been raised about the impact that the Bezoses' involvement—and their incredible fortune—will have on the soiree, which costs upward of $6 million to organize, The New York Times reported.
That sum is certainly nothing to turn one's nose up at, particularly given that the 2025 Met Gala raised a record $31 million, yet it pales in comparison to Bezos' net worth, which sits at $283 billion at the time of writing.

Even the value of Bezos' property portfolio eclipses the cost of the Met Gala, coming in at more than $660 million—100 times the amount required to host the event, and more than 16 times the amount reaped from last year's party.
Among those properties is an extraordinary $80 million collection of units inside the same Manhattan high-rise, although it is unclear whether the couple will stay at this dwelling for the duration of the Met Gala weekend because it is located some 50 blocks from the Met.
Luckily, New York is just a quick private jet trip away from the Bezoses' primary residence in Miami, where they have been based since 2023, when the Amazon mogul announced that he was relocating to the Sunshine State from Washington to be closer to his parents.
However that jaw-dropping home is just the tip of the iceberg as far as the couple's incredible real estate collection is concerned.
Here, Realtor.com® pulls back the curtain on all of the extraordinary dwellings inside the duo's portfolio as they prepare to put their personal spin on fashion's biggest night of the year.
Indian Creek Island, FL

Bezos has been hard at work on building his perfect marital abode on Indian Creek Island since 2023, when he and his wife announced they were relocating their primary residence from Washington to Florida.
Since then, the Amazon mogul has purchased three extraordinary properties inside the exclusive enclave, which is widely known as Billionaire Bunker, thanks to the sky-high net worths of its residents, which include the likes of Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and Mark Zuckerberg.
First, he snapped up two adjacent mansions in 2023 for $68 million and $79 million, respectively.
Multiple reports suggest that the Amazon founder plans to raze both of the existing properties to make way for one enormous megamansion that will serve as the couple's primary residence.
But until that work is completed, he has made sure that their temporary accommodations are up to snuff as far as luxury is concerned, going above and beyond to transform his third Billionaire Bunker abode, a Mediterranean-style mansion he bought for $87 million in 2024.
It is currently unclear how long work on his other two dwellings will take; however, the scope of the work suggests that it could well take several years before the newly constructed megamansion is completed.
In February 2024, it was revealed that Bezos enjoyed another perk as a result of his relocation: saving hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes.
According to a report by CNBC, the businessman stands to save "at least $610 million" in taxes that he would have had to pay if he were still living full time in Washington state.
Bezos had purchased a property for his parents, Mike and Jaclyn, in nearby Coral Gables in 2022, paying $78 million for two adjacent mansions that served as the couple's primary residence.
However, in August, Bezos revealed that his mother, who was known as Jackie, had died inside the home after a "long fight with Lewy Body Dementia."
Medina, WA

Before moving to Florida, Bezos had been largely based at his properties in the tony enclave of Medina, a suburb of Seattle, where he had been buying up homes for many years.
Bezos launched his e-commerce company in Washington state in the mid-1990s and built an enormous compound there. He is one of several billionaires who own properties in the ultraexclusive Washington enclave of Medina, which is also home to the likes of Bill Gates and former Microsoft executive Charles Simonyi.
Four years after he founded Amazon, Bezos, along with now-ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, spent $10 million buying up two homes that sit on a 5-acre plot in the town of Hunts Point. In 2010, the duo reportedly spent $28 million to extensively renovate the estate, which boasts 310 feet of private shoreline and a private boathouse.
To maximize space (and privacy), Bezos also purchased an adjacent property that same year—a 24,000-square-foot mansion that was reportedly listed for $53 million. It is unclear whether the Amazon CEO paid that hefty sum or managed to snag a discount.
That home would ultimately serve as the business mogul’s primary residence for the next decade until 2023, when he announced his move to Florida.
Though he still holds the keys to much of his Seattle property portfolio, Bezos did offload one home in April 2025, selling it off for an astonishing $63 million, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal.
Bezos made a very hefty profit on the sale of the 9,240-square-foot home, having purchased it for $37.5 million in 2019, the same year he divorced his ex-wife.
Washington, DC
The owner of the storied Washington Post owns a similarly storied estate in the nation's capital, a compound that he is said to have dropped $23 million on in 2017. The DC property includes two large, historical buildings and a chauffeur’s residence and garage, totaling nearly 27,000 square feet of interior space.
The entire lot measures more than 34,000 square feet, with landscaped gardens and lawns. It had been marketed as “perfect for a school or embassy or an exceptional private home.”
New York City
The Blue Origin founder also has a huge pied-à-terre in New York City. He owns a $16 million, three-bedroom apartment, purchased in 2020. That's in addition to $80 million worth of units in the building, including a three-story penthouse and two apartments on the level right below it.
In 2019, building permits were filed to combine the units.
Maui, HI
The Amazon founder reportedly added one more property to his cart in 2021. The billionaire and his wife picked up a 14-acre estate on the Hawaiian island of Maui. The cost of the off-market transaction was reported to be in the neighborhood of $78 million.
The offering is said to include a 4,500-square-foot main house, a 1,700-square-foot guesthouse, and a 700-square-foot pool. The holding encompasses seven parcels of land and a fish pond with a private, white-sand beach.
Beverly Hills, CA

Bezos' lavish spending has continued on the West Coast, where, in 2020, Bezos dropped a record $165 million for David Geffen's Los Angeles mansion. Known as the Warner Estate, the 9-acre spread was built for Jack Warner, the late former president of Warner Bros.
The parcel features "expansive terraces, sprawling gardens, several guesthouses, a tennis court and its own nine-hole golf course."
That dwelling recently served as the location for reality TV mogul Kris Jenner's 70th birthday party, which saw the likes of Oprah, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Mark Zuckerberg, and Mariah Carey in attendance.
West Texas

The lovebirds also hold the keys to an expansive ranch in West Texas, just north of Van Horn.
Bezos purchased the property in 2004 because it reminded him of his childhood on his grandfather's land in Cotulla, TX.
It is unknown how much he splashed out for the 400,000-acre property.
The ranch is home to the 10,000-Year-Clock, which is designed to keep time for 10,000 years and helped Sanchez think about her future with Bezos, according to Vogue.
His then-fiancee also revealed to the outlet that Bezos has a space-themed bar dubbed the Kármán Line Bar located on the West Texas ranch.
