Milwaukee’s 15th District Saw 13% Assessment Jump—Double the City Average

by Realtor.com Local News

Homeowners in Milwaukee's 15th Aldermanic District are facing property assessments that rose nearly twice as fast as the rest of the city.

Districtwide assessed values rose 13.06% nearly double the citywide average, according to Alderman Russell W. Stamper's office, which is hosting free sessions to help residents understand the numbers and fight back.

That gap has sparked alarm among residents already stretched thin by rising costs.

"These assessments directly impact families, seniors, working homeowners, and long-term residents who are already struggling with rising costs," the 15th District alderman said.

"When residents see dramatic increases that do not align with the condition, value, or realities of their homes and neighborhoods, they have every right to ask questions and challenge those assessments."

Two sessions, two neighborhoods

Stamper is hosting two information and appeal assistance sessions this week, on Tuesday and Thursday. The first is Tuesday, May 12, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, 2620 W. Center St. The second is Thursday, May 14, same hours, at PEAK Initiative, 2480 W. Cherry St.

Both sessions will cover how the city's assessment process works, how to file a formal appeal, and hands-on help completing the paperwork on the spot. Real estate agents, developers, and other industry professionals will also be on hand to assist.

Residents are encouraged to bring their property assessment notice, any comparable property information they can find, and a laptop or tablet to file directly at the event.

"Policy should protect residents, not punish them," Stamper said. "We are going to organize, educate, and advocate for fairness and accountability throughout this process."

The sessions are open to 15th District residents and neighbors from surrounding areas. To register, use the QR code on the event flyer or contact Stamper's office at (414) 286-2659.
