Mark Wahlberg’s Former Mansion ‘Playground’—Complete With His Custom Two-Story Gym and Boxing Ring—Undergoes $7 Million Price Cut

by Charlie Lankston

Hollywood legend Mark Wahlberg's former "playground" in Beverly Hills has hit the market again at a significant discount—12 years after the actor sold the extensively remodeled mansion.

The property, which is in the celebrity-loved Oak Pass community, was originally put on the market in November 2022 with an asking price of $28.5 million, a sum that has now been slashed to $21.8 million.

Though Wahlberg, 54, has long since moved on from the dwelling—moving first to an expansive custom estate just a stone's throw away, before relocating his family to Nevada—it still bears many of the unique features that the actor designed during his decadelong ownership of the property.

Among those very luxurious amenities is a unique two-story, detached gym that boasts a full-size boxing ring and opens up via aircraft hangar doors to an outdoor basketball and sports court.

Wahlberg, who is famous for following a rigorous health and fitness routine that begins with 2:30 a.m. workouts, had the structure built during his extensive renovation of the home, which he sold in 2013 for $10.3 million, according to records.

But the impressive fitness facility is far from the only impressive feature of the 14,000-square-foot abode, which is perched on a 1.7-acre parcel on the side of a hill and boasts impeccable views of the surrounding area.

Just a stone's throw from the outdoor sports court is a beautiful grotto-style swimming pool, complete with "cascading waterfalls" and a waterslide.

The home's picture-perfect backyard is completed with putting greens, citrus orchards, and multiple outdoor entertaining spaces, one of which even features its own pizza oven, ideal for al fresco dining.

Should an indoor meal be on the cards, residents need only venture a few feet inside the property to the "gourmet kitchen," which boasts a large breakfast area, another eat-in space with a temperature-controlled wine cellar, and an enormous window that opens up to showcase the staggering vistas.

Meanwhile, the main living area has been designed with a wall of glass that can be pulled back to bring the beautiful outdoors in—opening up to an expansive second-story deck.

"The main residence features soaring ceilings, white oak floors, and refined living and dining spaces opening to an oversized deck with sweeping lush green canyon views," the listing, which is held by Aaron Kirman, Daniel Milstein, and Gregory Ramano at Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California, notes.

Given the home's impressive Hollywood history, it is perhaps unsurprising that it features an impressive home theater that boasts a private wet bar as well as an outdoor screening space, perfect for a movie night under the stars.

And as bedrooms go, there are plenty to choose from—seven, in fact.

But the star of the show is the primary suite, which has two en suite bathrooms, two walk-in closets, a dressing area, and a high-tech retractable TV that can be hidden away from sight when not in use.

"Additional suites and a spacious lower level family room with bar occupy the lower level, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor floor plan," the description goes on.

The cherries on top of the awe-inspiring abode including an in-house salon and additional staff facilities that can be used as guest quarters if required.

"From the full-size boxing ring and state-of-the-art gym to the resort-style pool with grotto and waterfalls, this estate redefines what luxury living in Beverly Hills means—it’s about having the entire world at your doorstep, but feeling utterly secluded," listing agent Daniel Milstein told Realtor.com.

"Privacy, scale, and ultimate luxury living is what this compound is all about. Dual gated entrances, almost two acres of landscaped grounds, and every major amenity—theater, guest house, sport courts—all speak to a rare opportunity in one of the most coveted enclaves of Beverly Hills available today."

With such a host of impressive amenities, one might wonder why Wahlberg ever walked away from the home—particularly given the impressive amount of work he poured into its renovation.

However, the actor only ventured a few minutes down the road, where he constructed a custom estate in the nearby Beverly Park community, having commissioned famed architect Richard Landry to design the opulent abode for his family in 2014.

Wahlberg originally purchased the lush land on which that home now sits for the relatively low cost of $8.25 million in 2009 and resided there with his family until 2022, when he announced that he had relocated to Nevada.

Nevada is "a place where my kids can thrive and do their thing and pursue their interests," he told People, adding during an appearance on "The Talk": "To be able to give my kids a better life and follow and pursue their dreams, whether it be my daughter as an equestrian, my son as a basketball player, my younger son as a golfer—this made a lot more sense for us."

After making the move to a new state, Wahlberg listed his Beverly Park home for $87.5 million; however, despite its many impressive amenities, he struggled to find a buyer—until, that is, hotel heiress Paris Hilton and her husband, Carter Reum, snapped up the estate for the much lower price of $63.1 million earlier this year.

Hilton and Reum, who share two children, are understood to have bought the property as a primary residence where they can raise their kids.

And Wahlberg certainly ensured that there were plenty of amenities fit for a growing family—including a sport court, skate park, five-hole golf course, and resort-style pool.

After walking away from that paradise, Wahlberg snapped up a $14.5 million home in the exclusive Summit Club community in his new home state of Nevada; however, he opted to sell the Vegas dwelling one year later, explaining at the time that it had been only a temporary abode for his family, for whom he was planning to build a custom mansion in their new home state.

Despite leaving Los Angeles, the actor is still heavily involved in the movie business, although he has been focusing more of his time on work behind the camera, serving as a producer or executive producer on a number of projects—having revealed in 2023 that he was planning to cut down his time on screen.

"I don’t think that I’ll be acting that much longer at the pace I am now. That’s for sure," he told Cigar Aficionado magazine, while conceding that he originally turned to producing because he kept losing out on roles to Hollywood big wigs like Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Leonardo DiCaprio.

"I started becoming a producer out of necessity," he explained. "I didn’t want to sit around waiting for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever was already established before me and were the guys at the time, and Leo [DiCaprio], to go and pass on a movie until I could get my hands on it.

"I was always proactive in trying to find material and things that I could produce, that I knew was right for me, create my own destiny."
