First Lady Melania Trump Shares a Rare Glimpse Into Her Life at White House in New Trailer for $40 Million Documentary

by Charlie Lankston

First Lady Melania Trump has offered unprecedented insight into her life as the wife of President Donald Trump in a new teaser trailer for her upcoming documentary, which will reveal an "intimate" glimpse inside her role, as well as her relationship with her husband.

A first look at the $40 million project, which Melania, 55, executive produced, features several clips shot over a 20-day period, beginning in December 2024, as the mother of one and her husband prepared to take up residence in the White House for a second time.

"Here we go again," Melania is heard telling the cameras as her husband's January inauguration got underway.

From there, the trailer is a whirlwind of activity, showing the first lady joining the president as he prepares to make a speech, offering up feedback as he declares his "proudest legacy" as that of a "peacemaker," telling him to edit the line to "peacemaker and unifier."

She is also seen tending to her own projects as first lady, at one point picking out some stationary, while also overseeing the design of her outfits, including the black-and-white gown she modeled at the Inaugural Ball, which was conceived by her longtime stylist, Herve Pierre.

Melania is also seen traveling back and forth between Washington, DC, and Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, FL, which served as the couple's primary residence after he left the White House in January 2020, following his election loss to former President Joe Biden.

At one point, the first lady is seen taking a meeting with a female associate, whom she speaks to about leadership—while another clip sees her chatting with a member of the Secret Service, asking gravely: "Is it safe?"

After the agent responds in the affirmative, the trailer cuts dramatically to a clip of Secret Service SUVs with sirens and flashing lights blaring.

The Trumps' son, Barron Trump, is also seen in a handful of clips, including one filmed at the inauguration, in which he is seen embracing his mother.

Plenty of glamour can be seen in the trailer, which shows Melania traveling on a private jet, while also featuring several close-up shots of her various fashions, including a pair of stiletto boots that are zoomed in on as she exits a car.

Meanwhile, one particularly somber moment captures the first lady in a black suit placing a bouquet of lilies at a grave.

"History is set in motion during the 20 days of my life prior to the U.S. presidential inauguration," the first lady told Fox News of the project.

"For the first time, global audiences are invited into theaters to witness this pivotal chapter unfold—a private, unfiltered look as I navigate family, business, and philanthropy on my remarkable journey to becoming First Lady of the United States of America.

"The 20 days of my life, preceding the U.S. presidential inauguration, constitutes a rare and defining moment—one that warrants meticulous care, integrity, and uncompromising craftsmanship.

“I am proud to share this very specific moment of my life—20 days of intense transition and planning—with moviegoers and fans across the globe.”

Melania added that she felt inspired to produce the self-titled film, which is due for theatrical release on Jan. 30, in collaboration with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Amazon Studios, because she feels it is a story that "has never been told."

"Because the subject matter is historically consequential, it was imperative for me to produce a film of the highest cinematic standard, suitable exclusively in theaters worldwide," she went on.

The final clip in the trailer appears to show Melania at Trump Tower in New York City, where she is seen taking a call from her husband, answering by saying: "Hi Mr. President. Congratulations."

"Did you watch it?" Trump responds, to which Melania admits: "I did not. Yeah. I will see it on the news."

It remains to be seen what other tidbits will be on view when the film is released later this month, with the description only teasing that it will be full of "exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments."

The project was directed by controversial filmmaker Brett Ratner, who was accused of sexual assault in 2017, claims he has vehemently denied—marking his first return to the big screen since that controversy.

It sparked a furious bidding war among streaming giants when it was announced, with Amazon ultimately splashing out $40 million for the exclusive streaming rights, as well as the option of producing a docuseries as a follow up to the film.

It marks a bold change for Melania, who has famously tried to maintain a sense of privacy, even as her husband has become one of the most-watched men in the world.

Throughout his first presidency, she prioritized care of her son, Barron, who was in high school at the time, over public appearances—and during Trump's second term, she has remained largely behind the scenes, save for a few major events.

At one of those events, she opened up about the documentary, explaining that she wanted to offer a more intimate look inside the delicate balance that she maintains as a wife, mother, a businesswoman, and first lady.

"A first of its kind, capturing the 20 days of my life before the inauguration, 20 intense days of transformation from private citizen to first lady, balancing my business, my philanthropy, fostering the future, building my East Wing team and the White House staff, and, of course, caring for my family,” she said at the Patriot of the Year Awards.

She noted that the idea for the project came to her not long after her husband claimed victory in the 2024 election.
