Elon Musk Admits It Is ‘Impossible’ To Spend Time With All of His Kids—but Says He’s ‘Not Opposed’ To Welcoming More Via Adoption
Tesla tycoon Elon Musk is already father to at least 13 children—however, the billionaire has now admitted that he is open to expanding his brood even more via adoption, despite confessing that he finds it "impossible" to carve out time to spend with the kids he already has.
The 54-year-old businessman is known to have fathered children with at least three different women since 2002: his first wife, Justine; musician Grimes; and Neuralink executive Shivon Zillis. Another woman, conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair, also claims she had a baby with the SpaceX founder in 2024, although he has never publicly accepted paternity.
Musk, who is based in Texas, has openly voiced his concerns about the decline in population for years, even going as far as to publicly offer his DNA to prominent women like Taylor Swift, whom he targeted in an X post in 2024.
But in a new appearance on the "WTF Is" podcast hosted by Nikhil Kamath, Musk admitted that he is also open to expanding his brood via adoption, revealing that he is "not opposed" to the idea when asked during the interview.
Joking that he has "an army" of kids already, Musk added: "I'm trying to get an entire Roman legion."
"I have some older kids that are adults, essentially, then a bunch of younger kids," he went on.
Ironically, however, the billionaire—who could be on his way to becoming the world's first trillionaire thanks to a new Tesla pay package—confessed just minutes later that he already struggles to find enough time in his busy schedule to be with his kids.

"I definitely have my hands full right now," he said, prompting laughter from the host. "I do want to be able to spend some time with my kids. Right before coming here, I was with my kids, seeing them before bedtime, that kind of thing.
"Beyond a certain number, it's like, kind of impossible to spend time with them."
Musk—who is estranged from one of his eldest children, transgender daughter Vivian—noted that his older kids are all "very independent," particularly his sons, who he said he only sees "once in a while."
"I can only have enough kids on the young side where it's humanly possible to spend time with them," he admitted.
Musk conceded that the more traditional family archetype of "one child, one mother, one father" is what "works for most people," he said that this kind of setup simply isn't in his nature.
Despite not being able to balance his work and his large family life, Musk confessed that his desire to adopt comes from a fear for the future of the world, noting that he constantly "worries about the population decline."
Other than St. Clair's baby, whose paternity has not been confirmed, Musk has welcomed 14 known children since 2002; however, his firstborn died of sudden infant death syndrome at just 10 weeks old.
He went on to father five more children with his first wife, Justine Wilson: daughter Vivian, from whom he is estranged, and her twin, Griffin, both now 20; and triplets Saxon, Damian, and Kai.
The entrepreneur then welcomed three children with singer Grimes between 2020 and 2022, X Æ A-Xii, 5, who is known as “X”; Exa Dark Sideræl, 4, who is known as “Y”; and Techno Mechanicus, who was born in June 2022 and goes by “Tau.”
He shares his other four kids—twins Strider and Azure, 4, Arcadia, 1, and Seldon Lycurgus—with Shivon Zilis, an executive at his Neuralink company.

St. Clair claimed in a February post on X that she had welcomed a child fathered by Musk, writing: "Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father. I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child's privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.
"I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment," she added, while calling for the media to "honor our child's privacy."
She later opened up about what she claimed became a bitter battle between herself and Musk, who has yet to confirm whether he is the father of her child, Romulus.
However, the exact number of children fathered by Musk is not known—and is not a topic that he has ever sought to provide clarity on, instead keeping the specifics of his kids under wraps. The existence of several of his children was only made public years after they were born and reports have suggested that the billionaire has other kids whom he has never spoken about.
Musk's latest parenting admission comes weeks after it was revealed that he is on track to become the the first trillionaire in history after his company's shareholders approved a groundbreaking $1 trillion pay package for the CEO—who is already the richest person on the planet.
The historic rewards program was first proposed by the board of Musk's Texas-based company in September, when Tesla's investors were asked to approve a 10-year plan for the founder, which will see him given significant payouts should the company achieve several very ambitious milestones.
That pay package was officially approved at a shareholder meeting on Nov. 6, according to the Associated Press.
Some of the measurements mentioned in the pay package include an increase of Tesla's market value to $8.5 trillion—nearly eight times its current worth of $1.09 trillion—and the success of its robotaxi, robotics, and AI initiatives.
The proposed pay package was laid out in the company's September proxy filing, which stated that Musk's stake in Tesla would increase to 25% if he is able to achieve each of the benchmarks laid out, according to Bloomberg.
Currently, the Tesla founder has an estimated net worth of $489.1 billion, according to Forbes, a fortune that makes him the wealthiest person in the world—and one that is almost double that of the second-richest man, Larry Page.
Unlike his fellow "super billionaires," however, Musk claims to live a very low-key lifestyle, eschewing the luxury trappings that many of the world's richest people indulge in as a result of their extraordinary fortunes.

For years, he has claimed that he resides in a rented property worth around $50,000 that he leases from his space technology company SpaceX and which is located just a stone's throw from its headquarters in Brownsville, TX.
In a post shared to his X account in 2021, the billionaire claimed: "My primary home is literally a ~$50k house in Boca Chica/Starbase that I rent from SpaceX. It’s kinda awesome though," adding that, at the time, the only other property he owned was an "events house" in the San Francisco Bay area.
However, in the years since, it has been revealed that Musk does in fact own at least two other homes—one of which is in Austin, TX, where Tesla is headquartered.
Musk is currently confirmed to have fathered at least 13 children since 2002; however, conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair claimed in February that she had welcomed a baby boy with the Tesla founder, who has yet to acknowledge paternity.
He did, however, deny the Times' report that he was building a compound for his kids.
In addition to his Austin residence, Musk also recently added another property back into his portfolio: a Los Angeles home that was once owned by Hollywood legend Gene Wilder.
The tech tycoon originally bought the property in 2013 for $6.75 million; however, he made the decision to sell it in 2020, when he announced plans to get rid of "almost all his physical possessions," including Wilder's former home.
Still, the SpaceX founder made clear his enduring connection to the property, writing in a post shared on X that, while he planned to "own no house," any person or persons who took ownership of the Wilder property would be barred from demolishing it or making any major changes to its design.
"Gene Wilder's old house ... cannot be [torn] down or lose any [of] its soul," he stipulated.
Months later, it was revealed that Musk had found the perfect person to take control of the dwelling—Wilder's own nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman. Walker-Pearlman and his wife, Elizabeth Hunter, purchased the home from the businessman for $7 million that same year.
At the time, Musk was hailed for his generosity after it was reported that he had not only sold the home to the couple for under its estimated market value, but had also loaned them a hefty $6.7 million to help them with its purchase.
However, that seemingly sweet scenario quickly turned sour four years later, when Walker-Pearlman and Hunter fell behind on their loan payments, leading to Musk file a notice of default.
That original default notice, which was dated July 29, 2024, stated that the property "may be sold without court action" if the owners had fallen behind in their payments.
Though a public auction of the property was scheduled to be held Dec. 3, 2024, records filed the following month revealed that the home had been bought back by the same LLC through which Musk originally purchased it.
It's not currently known what Musk plans to do with the property—having seemingly purchased it the first time around more as a trophy home than an actual residence.
