EXCLUSIVE: Aaron Rodgers’ Parents Sell Their Adorable California Home for $1.7 Million—Amid Ongoing Rift With Quarterback

by Kelsi Karruli

NFL star Aaron Rodgers' parents have scored a major real estate win after offloading their longtime California home for $1.68 million just a few weeks after listing the property.

Ed and Darla Rodgers, who purchased the quaint Chico, CA, home for just $306,000 in 2007 officially closed on the sale of the five-bedroom dwelling on May 18, according to records—even as their son continues his struggle to offload his mansion in Wisconsin.

Aaron, 42, who recently signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, listed his Hobart, WI, manse for $3.7 million in November, around four months before his parents, from whom he has been estranged for several years, put their own dwelling on the market in their hometown of Chico.

But it seems the quarterback has not been able to mirror the success his mother and father enjoyed with the sale of their dwelling, and his property remains on the market at the time of writing.

The Rodgers' elegant Victorian Craftsman measures just over 5,300 square feet—just over half the size of Aaron's enormous 10,500-square-foot Wisconsin abode, which sits at the heart of a leafy 5-acre parcel.

By comparison, his parents' former property offers just over 3 acres, as well as an impressive host of amenities inside the home itself, including a "custom theater room," a smart system, a one-bedroom apartment, a three-car garage, and a hot tub.

"[It] is a home that truly has it all—timeless finishes, thoughtful spaces, and beautiful indoor and outdoor living areas. It’s the kind of home where life is meant to be lived," the listing stated.

Aaron is known to have a very complicated relationship with his parents and his two siblings, which was first brought to light in 2016, when his younger brother, Jordan, appeared on that year's season of "The Bachelorette," during which he accused the football pro of distancing himself from his family.

Jordan claimed in an interview on the reality show that, while he was incredibly close with his other brother, Luke, Aaron had not maintained the same bond with his family, stating: "It’s just the way he’s chosen to do life. I chose to stay close with my family and my parents and my brother."

He later told 2016 series star JoJo Fletcher: "It’s something we don’t really like to talk about a whole lot. It pains both of us like, not to have that relationship—we miss our brother. I trust that God brings things full circle and that everything would just get back to us being a family."

Aaron's father, Ed, later told The New York Times the following year that the NFL star had not spoke n to his family since 2014, but noted that they were all "hoping for the best" as far as a reconciliation was concerned.

In his 2024 Netflix documentary, "Aaron Rodgers: Enigma," the quarterback opened up about the rift in his own words, describing the "loss" of his family as "heartbreaking," and noting that he'd had to "find a way to be my own parent."

The famously private athlete has not since addressed his relationship with his parents or siblings since, although reports have surfaced multiple times in the past 10 years that he was taking steps toward a reconciliation.

Aaron and his siblings spent much of their childhoods in Chico, where their father, who was born in Texas, played football for the Chico State Wildcats—and it was in the California town that the NFL quarterback first started to hone his own sporting skills while playing at Pleasant Valley High School.

However, by the time his parents moved into their recently sold abode, Aaron had departed for the NFL, having spent two years playing football for the California Golden Bears.

Ed and Darla initially listed their Chico home for $1.75 million and, while they ended up selling for just under that asking price, they scored a very sizable profit on the $306,000 they paid for the house nearly 20 years ago—two years after their son was drafted by the Green Bay Packers.

Coincidentally, its sale coincided with another very significant milestone in Rodgers' career—confirmation that he will return to the Steelers for the 2026 NFL season, which many have speculated will be his last as a professional football player.

Speculation surrounding Rodgers’ comeback had been swirling for months after the veteran quarterback was spotted at the Steelers’ training facilities, sparking widespread rumors that a reunion was imminent.

The quarterback originally signed a one-year contract with the Pennsylvania-based team in 2025—and it was initially unclear whether he would return to the side.

But Rodgers is still being weighed down by one reminder of his time with the Packers: the Wisconsin property that he purchased in 2015, which has been lingering on the market for six months now.

When the athlete picked up the property for just over $1.7 million, he had just completed an MVP-winning season with the Packers—a team he spent 18 seasons playing for, from 2005 to 2022.

It's understood that the home served as Rodgers' primary residence for the next seven years, until he was traded to the Jets—with whom he spent just two seasons, before signing with the Steelers.

The lavish house certainly offered plenty of luxury for Rodgers to enjoy during the height of his NFL career, boasting more than 10,500 square feet of living space on a 5.32-acre lot that is filled with lush greenery.

According to the listing, the property is a "one-of-a-kind, custom-built all-stone estate tucked away on a very serene and private beautifully landscaped acres."

The property—which appears somewhat unassuming from the outside—also offers ample privacy thanks to the trees that surround it on three sides, creating a natural barrier from prying eyes.

Upon entering the home, guests are greeted with an expansive living room that is adorned with carpet flooring and features wood beams on the ceiling.

According to the listing, there is "a billiard room with bar, an all brick theater room with built-in seating and wet bar, fitness room, steam shower and changing room."

And, if to add to its lavish appeal, the property also has a large wine cellar that is every wine lover's dream.

Moving to the outdoor area, there is a gorgeous patio area with a fire pit, making it the perfect spot for guests to gather outside.

There is also a large tennis court, pickleball court, and even a greenhouse for early gardening.

Rodgers has held onto the property even as he has moved teams and picked up other abodes.

He tried to sell the dwelling in 2024 for $2.8 million, however, swiftly took it off the market.

In 2023, sources told the New York Post that Rodgers had no plans to sell anytime soon because he developed a "sentimental attachment to the area."
