Country Singer Jon Wolfe Proudly Shows Off Moody Man Cave in His Sprawling Texas Home

by Karli Mullane

Country singer Jon Wolfe has earned his spurs as both a celebrated musician and a tequila brand founder, so when it comes to the Texas home where he hangs his cowboy hat, he’s made sure there’s room for all of his creative endeavors to mix together smoothly.

The 47-year-old singer-songwriter bought the three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom, 3,500-square-foot New Braunfels residence that sits on a 1-acre lot in the fall of 2022.

Located in the Texas Hill Country of the Lone Star State, the new-build home was nearly complete when Wolfe and his wife, Amber Wolfe, pivoted from house hunting elsewhere to snag the spot and put their stamp on it.

Speaking to Realtor.com® to celebrate the Nov. 7 release of his new album, “Barstool Therapy (Session One),” Jon categorized his house style as modern traditional, though he quickly acknowledged Amber might beg to differ.

“What happens a lot in the Hill Country of Texas is it's a mixture" of styles, explains Jon. “It’s interesting because you look at the kitchen and it's traditional meets modern farmhouse."

Jon and Amber are in tune with each other when it comes to the interior, approaching design duties like a duet.

“We work on that stuff together,” says Jon. “I’ve learned that I can give my wife, like, four options and as long as I'm relatively OK with all four, I'm going to land somewhere where I'm happy.”

Nowhere in the home is he happier than in his man cave. It’s where he reliably retires to blend relaxation with pursuing his many passions. In this installment of Celebrity Sanctuary, Jon notes the dark and industrial finishes he favored to compose an elevated, rugged space that makes all who enter feel comfortable kicking off their boots.

The house was originally being built by a custom builder, and the market in ’21 and ’22 was getting kind of tough because [of] the rising cost of lumber. The builder lost their buyers on it, and so they ended up sort of finishing it themselves, and we stepped in with three months left before the home was done.

We were having a tough time, actually. We had bought some land in Driftwood, TX, and we had worked with an architect and started designing a home.

Amber's mom and dad and family live in Boerne, TX, and my mom lives in Buda, and we kind of stopped one day and said, "Why are we moving to Driftwood? 'Cause we're nowhere near anybody else, so what are we doing?” We ended up selling that land, and it was a really good financial move for us. We wanted to be in New Braunfels. We wanted to be a part of the community here, so we were on the lookout for a house, and it was a really, really tough market.

We found this place, and obviously, there's always things that you could do different if you were building it from the inception. But we looked at this house, and we were like, “All right, this is cool, man. We want this house.”

We did want a new home. A lot of homes that we were seeing on the market at the time were really cool, but you knew that you were going to have to get into "reno land." I had to help my mom renovate her house a few years prior, so I kind of knew a little bit about what that was going to be like, so we wanted a new home.

This house had a lot of potential for us. The kitchen is huge. My wife, she's an amazing cook, amazing chef, and she loves to entertain, so the kitchen is just, it's fantastic.

And then also the vaulted, tall ceilings. A lot of the ceilings in the house are 14 to 17 feet tall. It's really grand ceilings, and the rooms are really grand.

It was not landscaped at all. Literally, it was, like, extremely rough Hill Country land. It’s on 1 acre.

What's interesting is that throughout the entire house, except for the guest rooms, they used a faux wood ceramic flooring. That was one thing that we were like, “Hardwood would have been the thing,” and so the only thing we did was just make sure that that faux wood ceramic went into our master. If you could do it again, of course you'd have hardwood, but we have actually kind of enjoyed the durability of it.

The design inspiration in our home is a collaborative effort between Amber and I. This is actually a pastime of ours where we're really passionate about interior design. We're kind of junkers, so we will go look for cool things.

The chandelier behind me is a Venetian chandelier we picked up in a place here in Texas called Old World Antieks. It's really great stuff.

We're always looking to find a way to make our home feel custom. I think our design inspiration, we're big Ralph Lauren fans, so we're somewhere between, like, American traditional stuff. Some things get a little, like in my man cave, it can get a tad industrial at times.

I’m a guy, and I'm a country singer, and I also love football, so my sanctuary room in our home is, you would call it my man cave.

It's all painted in Sherwin-Williams' Tricorn Black. Before we moved in, we did do a lot of trim work, so there's a lot of picture-frame wainscoting.

It does have tall ceilings; I'm guessing they're 14 feet roughly with black velvet curtains. Everything's trimmed out in gold or brass. We did put some really killer doors over the entrance of the room, which further made this like a private guy's room.

I don't know how big the TV is, if it's 90 inches or what. I've also got a tequila bar in there—I own a tequila company called Juan Lobo Tequila. I've got all of my guitars in there.

I think it's fun as a guy to have a place carved out in the house that's just for me, and I can play guitar in there, write songs, watch football, drink tequila, all of those fun things.

I’m in Texas Longhorns Country right here. I'm not too far from Austin, so we're always rooting on the Texas Longhorns. Amber went to Texas State, so, you know, we have to kind of spread the love. If the Rangers are playing baseball, we watch the Rangers. We got the Spurs down here in San Antonio, so any Texas teams, we’re going to root them on.

A lot of the stuff that we've hung on the wall would be tour posters from a lot of my shows over the years and a few of my favorite places I like to visit. We've got some posters that we picked up out in Terlingua, so it's all decorated with some of those things.

The furniture, a lot of it is black steel furniture from Four Hands, so it's kind of industrial. It's got a big cloud couch, also from Four Hands. It's kind of a cloud hybrid. It’s not super-duper slouchy, but it's a big sectional. It's got a black leather chair from Four Hands as well.

There's a lot of things in my man cave that's sentimental to me. The coffee table is really cool. It's a piece that Four Hands put out quite a few years ago that's sort of a shadow box. It’s all glass, and so Amber put things in the coffee table that we both love. She loves The Beatles. I love Frank Sinatra. She likes rocks, so there's rocks in there. There's a couple design books in there that we love, like ski lodges and cabins, and so there's a book about cabins. The coffee table is really kind of a collection of things that we both are passionate about.

It does actually have an old safe. My wife loves these stories because they always turn into something. It’s a safe from the 1800s. I found it on Facebook Marketplace. I loved the look of it, it does work, and it's ridiculously heavy. I think I spent $150 on the safe and then proceeded to spend, like, $600 to get it in the house. It's going to become a cigar humidor. I’m going to have it converted.

We're big fans of incorporating some of the things that Amber loves, and she spends a lot of time in there, too, so it's her favorite movie room. You can close the curtains, and it's pretty much a movie room.

It's a place that, when I come home, it's relaxing. It centers me, just in general, being at home, but especially hanging out in my man cave. I’m able to watch football. I'm able to kind of turn off the world, I guess you could say, because country music [requires] a lot of traveling. The tequila business is an intense business.

My tequila bar in there, being able to try other tequilas and sit around, and I also have a stereo system in there that I listen to all my records and my mixes on—that is the room that I'm able to listen to the new stuff that's about to come out, and it really does transport me. It allows me to decompress and shut the world off for a minute or two.

Amber and I love listening to records, so we do have a great record player in there, which was gifted to me. Apparently, this one is, like, a classic. We collect vinyl, and that's kind of one of our pastimes is to hang out and have a glass of wine. We're actually going to build around the entryway, [so] when you walk in the man cave, you can turn around, and it's going to be custom shelving for vinyl for us to catalog all of our vinyl records.

I have a wine fridge in there, too. We love Napa Valley, and we keep our Napa Valley wine collection in the man cave. That's a lot of fun, too, for us to hang out.

A lot of the flooring, we put cowhides in there. There's one specific cowhide—I did a show for Randy Travis in Dallas a few years ago, and Randy and his wife gave us a big cowhide.

It definitely makes you feel a certain way, and it does have great lighting as well. That's really important, warm lighting. We're not big fans of LEDs in that room. You got to have the old classics.

When my friends come into that room, my buddies are always jealous of it. They love the velvet curtains.

I think a lot of times people are a little afraid to go dark on colors, even though it's really common now. But people talk a lot about the trim work that's done in the room. I think that's what a lot of people ask us about, like, they see the black walls, and they go, “Wow, man, it's not overwhelming. It has a great warm feel to it.” It does cast a vibe.
