Chase Stokes Bids Farewell to the ‘Outer Banks’: Actor Sells South Carolina Home for $3 Million Just 5 Months After Wrapping Netflix Hit

by Kelsi Karruli

"Outer Banks" actor Chase Stokes has wasted no time in leaving behind the Netflix series that launched him to fame—and the South Carolina locale where he has spent the last seven years shooting the popular series.

The 33-year-old actor, who has portrayed the lead character of John B. Routledge in the show, is said to have officially off-loaded the Charleston-area dwelling that he snapped up for $2.55 million in January 2024, not long after wrapping shooting on Season 4.

Now, with the fifth and final season due to premiere on Netflix this summer, it seems Stokes no longer has a need for a South Carolina base, selling off his elegant dwelling in Mount Pleasant, on the outskirts of Charleston, just weeks after it was listed for $3.3 million.

As first reported by TMZ, the five-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom house served as the actor's home base during filming of the final two seasons, which were shot primarily in and around Charleston, despite being set in North Carolina's Outer Banks.

Stokes issued an emotional statement about the time he has spent in the area on his Instagram Stories earlier this week, when he thanked the local community for being so welcoming, explaining that leaving Charleston was a very bittersweet milestone for him.

Stokes has become something of a local legend during his time on the show, along with his co-stars, including former girlfriend Madelyn Cline as well as Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, and Rudy Pankow, all of whom have appeared in the series since its debut in 2019.

The actor set up quite the sweet space for himself near the show's sets, taking up residence in the 3,425-square-foot dwelling, which was newly built when he moved in.

Its listing, which was held by Kaelin Hall of William Means Real Estate, described the property as a "striking custom residence" that offers "a rare sense of privacy paired with a refined, design-forward aesthetic."

Soaring ceilings, expansive living spaces, and a seamless indoor/outdoor flow were among the key selling points of the property, which also boasts several very upscale amenities, including a private sauna, an enormous primary suite, and a "bonus room" that can be used as a gum, office, or for storage.

"A custom white oak front door opens to a dramatic living space with vaulted ceilings and seamless flow into a richly appointed kitchen," the description continued.

"Designed with a moody, sophisticated palette, the kitchen features top-of-the-line Cafe appliances, bespoke cabinetry, and a statement waterfall island, creating a space that feels both functional and artful."

The sale of Stokes' property comes months after another very significant milestone in his life: the end of his on-again, off-again relationship with country music star Kelsea Ballerini.

Stokes and Ballerini began dating in 2023, going red carpet official later that year.

By October 2024, they had taken their relationship to the next level by moving in together in a Los Angeles dwelling, with Ballerini telling People: "We're unpacked, baby!"

However, less than 12 months after celebrating that relationship milestone, a spokesperson for the singer has confirmed to the same outlet that she and Stokes have ended their romance.

The couple then rekindled, but called it quits mere months later.

Shortly after the latest separation, Ballerini—who had been living in Nashville, TN, at the time—chose to relocate for a change of scenery. She packed her bags and moved to Manhattan, where she now says she has had the perfect opportunity to really "connect" with herself.

During an appearance on "Today with Jenna & Sheinelle," Ballerini gushed about her life in the city, telling hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones: "I'm loving this chapter of life just because I really feel like I'm being really intentional about connecting to myself."

Ballerini added that taking a break from traveling and touring in favor of settling down in one location has also done wonders for her mental health—while providing her with the opportunity to forge new friendships.

While Ballerini did not mention Stokes by name, she revealed that she did some intensive work on herself in the wake of the breakup, revealing that she underwent a three-day therapy treatment in Texas not long after their split.

"I just did a three-day intensive in Dallas, like, nine hours of therapy every day," she admitted.

"It's just, again, a better understanding of myself and why I am a people pleaser. I'm learning that about myself. I think in this chapter of my life, again, I'm kind of like, 'You know what, I don't want to give anyone else the power to tell me how I should feel about myself or my choices or the life that I choose to lead.'"
