A spaceship-style home has just touched down on the market in Spokane, WA, for $850,000.

The far-out, four-bedroom residence boasts 3,242 square feet of stylish design. Built in 1965, the home has been updated over the years but remains true to its midcentury roots.

The house last sold in 2010 for $369,500.

“They redid the kitchen while keeping a lot of the elements,” says listing agent Joel Elgee, of Avalon 24 Real Estate. “The bathrooms have original tile. The kitchen cabinets have been redone and feature concrete countertops.”

The unique abode was designed by architect Warren Heylman, whose work includes the Spokane Airport, Regional Health Building, and the Parkade Plaza. He died in 2022 at the age of 98.

“Warren Heylman was a midcentury modern architect who was groundbreaking for his era,” Elgee says.

In addition to the home’s unique design, the property’s double lot on nearly three-quarters of an acre also makes it a real standout.

“The house is tucked away and nestled in the woods, so you feel like you are in your own forest,” Elgee observes. “The setting is also really cool, as it was built into salt rock on a big, oversized lot in a sought-after neighborhood called the South Hill. It feels like you are in a private enclave, but you are just minutes from downtown Spokane. There are tree-lined streets and parks with a very community-centric layout.”

The minimalist interior features light-wood floors, clean lines, and walls of windows.

A modern kitchen has custom cabinets, an arched window design, and stainless steel appliances. According to the listing, a huge skylight “serves as a focal point to the rest of the home and lets in tons of natural light.”

An open floor plan flows seamlessly into a two-story living area surrounded by glass.

The first-floor primary suite has double closets. Three more bedrooms are situated upstairs in the loft-style open area.

There is a back deck and open patio with a hot tub—the perfect spot for enjoying views of the private, wooded lot. A detached carport, designed to look like the main home, can hold two vehicles and offers extra storage space.

Elgee believes the next owner will be looking for something unique and special.

“The home’s architectural integrity is not your everyday design,” he says. “It’s a one-of-a-kind home that has all of the creature comforts.”
