‘Weird Science’ Star Kelly LeBrock Reveals Why She Quit L.A. To Live as a ‘Recluse’ on Rural Ranch: ‘I Gave Up Diamonds for Dirt’
"Weird Science" star Kelly LeBrock was once considered one of Hollywood's most alluring on-screen stars—but today, she lives a world away from the red carpets and glamorous galas she was once a mainstay at, having turned her back on Los Angeles in favor of living a "reclusive" life on a ranch in rural California.
LeBrock, 65, opened up about her rustic lifestyle during a rare appearance on the red carpet, explaining why she made the decision to quit the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to pursue a much quieter existence—and why she couldn't be happier with where she is now.
"I gave up diamonds for dirt, and I have a big ranch that I have horses and cattle and dogs and chickens, and I take care of it myself," she told the Daily Mail while attending Lisa Vanderpump's annual Dog Gala.
But while LeBrock, who relocated to her Santa Ynez property three decades ago, after splitting from her former husband, Steven Seagal, is perfectly happy with her remote abode, she conceded that it has led to her being cut off from society much of the time.
"I don't really go out anymore. I'm sort of a bit of a recluse, but I like it like that ... I have one man, one day a week that comes and helps," she explained.

Records show that LeBrock, who shares three children with Seagal, purchased a large plot of land in Santa Ynez for $2.7 million back in 1995—and transferred the property into a trust.
At the time, the ranch was noted as having no bedrooms, however images show that the property now boasts multiple structures, including a sprawling primary residence and several barns.
Speaking about her home, LeBrock noted that it is tucked away by a lake, describing it as a "little gem" and comparing the surrounding area to a kind of natural "church."
"It's behind the lake. It's a little gem of its own. I live in church. The countryside there is so incredible," she went on.
In 2021, LeBrock, who was considered a poster girl for Hollywood glamour in the 1980s, opened up about her decision to disappear from the spotlight, revealing that her move out to the ranch was prompted largely by a desire to pull her children away from Los Angeles.
"Hollywood wasn’t a place where I wanted to raise my children," she told Fox News when asked why she had vanished, seemingly overnight.
The actress went on to reveal that the toll of having her divorce from Seagal dragged through the headlines further fueled her desire to escape the increasingly-blinding spotlight.
"My divorce was very much in the press," she recalled. "And I’m just not a Hollywood girl. Never have been. I never really liked the attention. I wanted to have dirt in my nails and be in the outdoors."

LeBrock went on to note that fame had never been something she relished, admitting that it caused nothing but "trauma" in her life—and therefore wasn't a status she wanted to prolong.
Still, she knew that if the time came when she was desperate to return to acting, it would always be there, unlike precious time with her children as they grew up.
"So I quit my career and moved to the wilderness where I lived with no television for 25 years," she said. "I did the best that I could as a single mom. I have three wonderful children.
"I could always go back to my career. I could never go back to my children. Some people can do both. But I already had the fame and was done with it. I became famous when I was very young and it didn’t do me a bit of good. It just caused trauma. Being famous is not for everybody."
In August of this year, she further elaborated on her escape from L.A., clarifying that she "did not step away" from the industry so much as she "ran away" at top speed, telling Fox News: "I was never impressed with myself or Hollywood. I never really cared about it. And I did the right thing.
"The most important thing to me was raising my children, because I grew up in boarding school. At 5 [years old], I was sent away. And I didn't want to have that story for my children."
Although she has not posted on social media in some time, LeBrock has previously shared glimpses into her life in Santa Ynez, revealing the stunning natural beauty that she is surrounded by each day—and her passionate love for her horses.
In one photo posted to her Instagram, the on-screen star revealed that a bobcat had made its way to her front garden, where she snapped a picture of it drinking from her fountain, while another image showed one of her horses sticking its head in through her car window while she was on her way back from the grocery store.
Despite moving away from Hollywood, LeBrock—who hails from New York but was raised in London, England—has dipped her toe back in the acting pool on a handful of occasions over the years, most recently appearing in the movie "Tomorrow's Today" in 2021.
